Really Red In Houston

Alley Theatre Gala

Anyone in Houston, and many beyond the Space City, knows that the Alley Theatre has a reputation as having the most fabulous and over the top themed galas in town. This year’s event lived up to that reputation by raising more than $400,000 with the auction grossing a record-breaking $100,000. We love that.

The theme was a touch of RED, based on the Tony-Award winning play that was shown this spring at the Alley.

Guests were welcomed to The Corinthian ballroom by live models painted in Rothko style in a room of canvas paintings inspired by Rothko. (RED, the play, is about Houston-tied Mark Rothko landing his biggest commission in the history of modern art, a series of murals for New York’s famed Four Seasons restaurant.)

Darryl & Co. created the amazing event décor, while Nic Philips designed the spectacular lighting. Jackson and Company provided a scrumptious four-course dinner and wine pairing with donations from the Lasco Enterprises and the Tasting Room, about which patrons were buzzing all night.

Scene in the crowd were artistic director Gregory Boyd and managing director Dean Gladden, chairs Cathy & Jesse Marion, Beth Madison, Cornelia & Meredith Long, Margaret Alkek Williams, Kristi & John Schiller, Lois Stark & George Stark, Kelly & Bill Montgomery, Nanette & Jerry Finger, Jeanne & James Ruberti, Jana & Scotty Arnoldy, David Gugino and Jeff Carey, Joseph Nolan and Rebecca Chapman. We look forward to seeing what next year’s event will transpire to help support such a worthy cultural cause.
