ART FOR ART’S SAKE

HOUSTON JOINS BASEL, LONDON, NEW YORK AND MIAMI AS LOCALE FOR ART FAIR

Recently Houston movers and shakers, along with eighty galleries from 12 countries and 34 cities, converged under one roof in Houston’s Reliant Center for the second annual Houston Fine Arts Fair, the largest art fair in the Southwest Region. World renowned collectors, curators, and art patrons experienced an exciting and diverse array of paintings, drawings, print editions, installations, sculpture, and photography. This was an impressive feat for Houston, which is, as you might know, the nation’s third largest art market.

Some of the highlights of the fair were the presence of local galleries, such as Deborah Colton Gallery, Barbara Davis Gallery, Wade Wilson Gallery, as well as MFAH Core Factor, an exhibition highlighting the work of graduates of the Core Program of the Glassell School at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, one of the country’s most respected artist-in-residency programs. We adore people who are so artful, don’t you?

Seen in the scene were collectors Brad Bucher and Victoria Lightman (curating Core Factor), Poppi Massey, Audrey Marnoy, Kimberly DeLape, Carolyn Farb, Shushana Castle, Robert Burnside, Shelby Hodge and Shafik Rifaat, Mark Haukohl, Mimi Levine, comedian Cheech Marin (displaying a collection of Chicano art), Rick Friedman (Executive Director of the Fair), MKG Art Management’s Melissa Grobmyer and Janet Hobby (Fair’s Show Advisors.)
