CANCERFORWARD

HOUSTON’S THINKING AHEAD TO HELP

Photography by Jenny Antill and Priscilla Dickson

With white dinner jackets, long dresses, a live orchestra, opulent décor and dancing at Houston Country Club on a summer’s night, the second annual New Summer Standard for CancerForward felt like a scene straight out of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s East Egg.

The black tie dinner dance celebrated National Cancer Survivors Day 2012 and honored three-time cancer survivor Nancy Moncrief of Houston. Four years ago, this mother of four young adult sons lost her husband, oilman Lee P. Moncrief, at age 57 to esophageal cancer.

Gala chairs Lisa and Mike O’Leary and Liz and Robert Rigney, and honorary chairs Betty and Stephen Newton, Cabrina and Steven Owsleyand Phoebe and Bobby Tudor joined other dapper luminaries at a colorful, elegant, black-tie summer dinner dance that has become THE standard for summer soirees in Houston.

Seen in the crowd of champagne and martinis were Judy and Charles Tate, Leila Mischer, Joann and Bill Crassas, Lynda and David Underwood, Bonner Ball, Brenda and Marc Watts, Julie Crosswell, Elizabeth and Peter Wareing, Margaret Alkek Williams with Jim Daniel, Kelli and Eddy Scurlock Blanton, Sr., Cora Sue and Harry Mach, Joella and Steve Mach, Louis Skidmore, Jr., Kenady Davis, Kristen and Jason Kaminsky, Matt and Lauren Moncrief, Andrew and Meredith Moncrief, Logan and Melissa Moncrief and Price and Brooke Moncrief.
