FUN WITH THE FIFTIES & FEATHERS: MET COSTUME BALL 2017

Fashion is big business. We all know that. It’s especially big business at the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute 2017 gala that saluted the high style of Commes de Garcon’s Rei Kawakubo’s inimitable Asian design aesthetic. It’s on the second time in the organization’s history of honoring a designer in his lifetime (Yves St. Laurent was honored in 1983).

Although few celebrities and supermodels actually wore Kawakubo’s clothing in homage, the grand and architectural point of view that’s made Commes so famous was on full display on the red carpet before guests entered the $30,000 a ticket fundraiser.

Here are a few of our favorites, some of which are festooned in feathers, as our Tori Johnson, http://www.thestoribook.com, predicted in The Society Diaries' new May/June 2017 issue's Indulge style column devoted to the flights of fancy. Plus, there’s a strong nod to the Dior-esque 50s, as well as all-out glamorous fun...
